It is not compulsory to change the nipple now and then. Although there is a need to change the nipple under the following circumstances: -
a. If there is a wear and tear (damage) in the nipple.
b. If there is an increase or decrease in the child’s need for the flow of the milk.
It is not necessary that a 6-month-old child will need 6m+ or “l” size of the nipple.
It totally depends on the flow of the milk that the child is expecting.
Parents, breathe. There is absolutely no harm in giving milk bottle to the child. The addiction cannot go overnight, but it will definitely go gradually. As the child starts intaking food, slowly his milk intakes reduce and as a result also the usage of milk bottle reduces. However, during the day, milk can be fed with the help of a spoon and the bottle can be used only at night. As the child grows, his intake of food increases and the intake of milk decreases.
So, do not be afraid of using milk bottles although precautionary measures like sterilizing it are to be taken care of.
The advisable age to use a soft spout nipple is till 6 months. Soft spout can be used till the child develops his/her teeth. Once the teeth develop it is advisable to use hard spout nipple. Reason being, with the help of their growing teeth they will tend to chew the soft spout causing wear and tear in the nipple. So, it is not advisable to use soft spout after the teeth starts growing.
Once the child is seven month and above, he/she can start using a walker. Although, it totally depends upon the parents as to how fast they inculcate the habit for the child to sit. The faster the child learns to sit with the spine upright the sooner he/she can start using the walker.
Every time we keep the milk bottle outside, we need to sterilize it. However, keeping the milk bottle in refrigerator, it gets disinfected.
There isn’t any need to change the milk bottle frequently provided it is sterilized and taken care of properly. Although, we need to change the milk bottle under two circumstances: -
a. In case of wear and tear, and
b. One can change the size of bottle according to the intake of the child.
